About PDJF

The Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF) is an independent charitable organization that provides financial assistance to Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse jockeys who have suffered catastrophic on-track injuries resulting in permanent disabilities. Created in 2006 as a collaborative effort of leaders representing race tracks, jockeys, horsemen’s groups, and others within the racing industry. In 2009, the PDJF became a freestanding 501(c)(3) charity governed by a board of directors comprised of stakeholders from a broad cross-section of both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing industries.

PDJF provides direct, continued monthly financial assistance to approved recipients.

Since our inception, PDJF has dispersed over $15 Million directly to recipients.

The life of a disabled jockey is one of resilience and courage – spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and other life-altering conditions that ended their careers and ability to earn a living. Recipients rely on PDJF support.

PDJF’s mission is grounded in compassion, advocacy, and lasting support for permanently disabled jockeys:

• Raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by permanently disabled jockeys.
• Provide crucial financial assistance to help cover living expenses, medical needs, equipment, and ongoing care.

When a jockey’s career ends in life-altering injury, the financial and emotional impact can be devastating. Many were injured early in their careers, in their 20s and 30s and live the majority of their lives with a permanent disability. Having lost their income and the opportunity to build a financial cushion, they are not able to support themselves and their families. PDJF stands at the intersection of need and hope, helping fill that gap.
